Top ten things to do in 2016

Hey there! Welcome to another fun post on LeisureReadz. So sorry for not being able to post on this past Saturday, I was stuck with some weekend errands. But nevertheless, let’s jump right in to the post without waiting any longer.
So, it’s already mid-January of 2016 and we have started our resolutions with greater and stronger resolves this year; in case any of you who haven’t been able to do so, you can surely get some ideas for doing some new and cool things in 2016!

Today’s post is about the top ten things we could do this year to make it more fun, exciting and memorable. I am no Guru about all these things and certainly do not want to get preachy. I am just an everyday person like you all who at times gets bored of doing the same things again and again and loves a small, nice change here and there in her routine.

Here’s the list -

1.The Task Quest: Try a new thing every month. Have a surprise activity jar wherein you pre-decide and make chits for what you want to achieve this year. Take out one chit every month and complete the task. At the end of the year, you could have tried 12 more new things than you did last year.

Bonus: Not knowing which activity would come up every month is an added bonus. Just make sure you have more than 12 chits planned before beginning the task. For super enthusiastic ones, you could make the activity a monthly one!

2. Learn a new language: With smartphones rising to power these days, there isn’t much that these small candy bar shaped boxes cannot do. There are lot of nice apps like the DuoLingo which can help you learn a new language anytime and anywhere. Download one and get started today!

Bonus: You can make some new friends and impress everyone with your newly learned skill.

3. The Fit ‘you’: Start moving more every day. Count your steps, take stairs instead of elevator, walk a little more, take a dance class, go trekking or nature walk; just stay hydrated and be sure to enjoy a day’s rest in the week for all your hard work.

Bonus: Besides looking and feeling good, do we need more??

4. Switch off that phone: Ever since, our dearest smart phone could do a multitude of tasks, we have been totally inseparable. So, how often do you give your gadgets a break? Doing so will not only increase their lifespan but will free up some precious time in your busy schedule too.

Bonus: You could try using the freed up time to schedule something more interesting like catching up with family and friends.

5. Chip in a bit more: Try some type of volunteering. Be even more considerate and help people more often.
Bonus: Volunteering can be big on satisfaction and stress reliving. Try it!

6. Pen that down: Get in to a habit of Journaling. Writing a journal could help you be more organized, help you note the things that you might forget or something you might like to remember as an achievement for later reading (motivational needs). There are different types of journals like food, gratitude, dream, idea, motivation, daily diary etc. Which one could be yours?

Bonus: If you start writing a food journal, you’ll surely be amazed to see your eating patterns i.e. how much or how less you eat!

7. Say bye-bye to a bad habit: No one’s perfect here. We all have our tiny flaws but other tons of good habits and hey that makes us who we are! All said, most of us have some habits that they would like to give up. Don’t you think it’s about time we all took a tiny step towards that?

Bonus: About this, only the new you can say better!

8. Get in the ‘Zen Zone’:
Science has accepted and proved the benefits of meditation. Start meditating more often to increase the sense of well being and improve mental acuity.

Bonus: Boost your productivity, even a small recitation of ‘Aum’ can improve your focus on a task throughout the day.

9. Go Green:
Do something green. Start doing things which are less taxing on the environment. Drink a green smoothie or green tea, Ride a bicycle or take a bus, don’t use plastics and so on…

Bonus: You never know, you might get hidden health benefits from these.

10.Take up a hobby: Do what you always wanted do as a kid/teen but never simply got a chance. Collecting stamps, coins, comic books or gardening-landscaping, baking, photography etc., it could be anything, any task which still brings out a smile on your face. Try it!

Bonus:
Hobby can be good for relieving stress and helps you maintain a good work-life balance.

Hope you found the article worth reading. Let me know if you have any other interesting ideas.

Till the next post, have fun and stay creative!
Cheers,
