Hello everyone! Nutrition is science that needs a good and thorough understanding of the subject. There are so many myths about nutrition in general; more about what to eat and what not to, why to eat certain food groups in moderation or at a certain time and so on.
So, let us begin the 'Healthy Living' series here with some well known Myths and the actual facts :
Myth1: Brown sugar is better for you than white sugar
FACT: The only difference between brown and white sugar is that brown sugar contains molasses, which has a caramel aroma and flavour, while white sugar has been refined to remove the molasses. Both of these sugars provide the same amount of energy (kilojoules), so the truth is that your body can’t really tell the difference.

Myth 2: Sugar Makes You Fat
FACT: Sugar is part of a well-balanced lifestyle and naturally occurring sugars can be good for you. Excessive calories of all kinds can cause weight gain so don’t avoid sugar all together but incorporate in moderation.

Myth 3: Eggs are bad for your heart
FACT: Eggs do contain a substantial amount of cholesterol in their yolks about 211 milligrams (mg ) per large egg. Cholesterol is the fatty stuff in our blood that contributes to clogged arteries and heart attacks . But labelling eggs as " Bad for your heart" is connecting the wrong dots. Epidemiological studies show that the most healthy people can eat egg a day without problems.

Myth 4: Calories eaten at night are more fattening than those eaten early in the day.
FACT: "calories are calories, and it doesn't matter what time you eat them. What matters are the total calories you take in. "

Myth 5: Skipping meals is a good way to lose weight
FACT: It may seem logical that skipping a meal will help you lose weight because you eat less, but it’s not that simple. Missing out on meals can actually have the opposite effect. Your body goes into ‘survival mode’, slowing down your metabolism and conserving energy rather than using it up. Skipping meals can also make you hungrier, and more likely to snack on high fat or sugar foods. A better way to reach and maintain a healthy weight is eat small meals regularly throughout the day and find ways to be more active.

Myth 6: Eating too much sugar causes type two diabetes
FACT: Even though one of the symptoms of diabetes is high levels of sugar (glucose) in the blood, eating sugar doesn’t directly cause diabetes. Type two diabetes is a lifestyle disease caused by a number of things, such as family history, lack of exercise and becoming overweight or obese. Someone without the genetic predisposition would not develop diabetes, no matter how much sugar he/she consumed .

Well, I hope by now you all are fully aware of these common myths and facts. So, do not dread the white sugar nor the egg yolk; instead, balance your diet with different food groups to gain and improve your overall health.
